It needs to be done right, but you know whoever buys this is just going to stance it. $3,000

I just pictured that with a roof rack and I almost cried.
What is it with stancebros and roof racks?

![]() 11/30/2014 at 13:38 |

That's it. I'm buying a house. With a garage. And a long driveway.
I keep seeing cars like this that I could theoretically afford but have no where to put them. Damn.
And stance guys are mildly retarded.

![]() 11/30/2014 at 13:59 |

I would 1UZFE swap it, adjust the suspension and chassis accordingly, sit it on some RS Wantanabes, and MAYBE paint it, but only if that isn't the original color, because I do appreciate the patina. Those mirrors are also gorgeous and I'm willing to bet half of what it's worth that it needs a new floor.
![]() 11/30/2014 at 14:04 |

Ahem. What's wrong with stance?
![]() 11/30/2014 at 14:04 |

Someone needs to drop an LS motor in there, cage it out and proceed to go everywhere sideways, in a cloud of smoke.
Please.
Do it for the opponauts...

I wish I couldnt. I have nowhere to put it.
![]() 11/30/2014 at 14:49 |

Well, it is a mythical Corolla wagon. And it is likely light years ahead of the current gen Corolla.
![]() 11/30/2014 at 14:49 |

Long driveway is the worst. Sure you can put more cars in it, but suddenly you want the one that's burrried 2 cars deep and you have an ordeal on your hands. Wide is the way to go, or just start parking on the lawn...

![]() 11/30/2014 at 15:54 |

When it starts to impact the usability of a car significantly, and the ability of a car to drive safely, stance goes from "not my thing" to "well ain't that cute, but it's wrong!"
![]() 11/30/2014 at 15:56 |

I've got this '94 S-10 chassis she'll look fiiine on top of with some 33" boggers.

Not really feeling all the Corolla love. Maybe it's because my friends parents had one in the 70s and it was awful... even for the 70s. Can someone please explain this to me?
![]() 11/30/2014 at 16:39 |

That just gives you an excuse to drive the ones that are blocking it.

RIP in Peace little Corolla
![]() 11/30/2014 at 17:35 |

As someone who digs both sides of the fence, I'm really fucking torn on the stance thing. I unabashedly love Japanese car culture and the look of (most of) these cars. Dished wheels and flares with optional camber totally does it for me, and don't even start about the riveted overfender. I could squee for days.
What I can't to is reconcile with how absurdly unsafe it is. I mean, the goal with a whole lot of these builds is to get your car so low that the frame scrapes on the road and grinds down every little bolt head and bit of vital framework, and then keep doing it intentionally because it looks cool and bro that camber angle is sick dude. No part of that is cool, nor is it smart.
Still, I'll always think it looks great from a presence standpoint. I'll just invest in airbag suspension if I ever want a car like that. And if I bought this Corolla, I wouldn't go much farther than what's already there. Slotted mags are bitchin'.
![]() 11/30/2014 at 17:38 |
|
No. It needs to stay Toyota. An LS is too unoriginal for this car. It needs a 1UZ, or a 2ZZ-GE.
![]() 11/30/2014 at 17:52 |
|
I'm an oldie too. Google 1949 Mercury lead sled to see how it was done back in the day
![]() 11/30/2014 at 17:57 |
|
Those, and old school lowriders, aren't my thing either but where the stance crowd really goes too far for me is the excessive, to cartoon levels of absurdity, negative camber. But every generation has their thing that Oldes like us aren't meant to understand.

I am a corrosion scientist and that would be reduced iron.
![]() 11/30/2014 at 18:14 |

![]() 11/30/2014 at 19:49 |

See, I would get a Thule rack for that, but only because I'd want to take it up to the lakes in the Adirondacks to go kayaking.
Else it'd remain as stock as it could.

"just going to stance it."

Ugghhh. Stancebros here in Seattle love the racks too. You just know they are not mountain biking, snowboarding and surfing. They are too busy riding around at night stealing my roof accessories.

Buy wagon
Buy and instal a 1jz with proper turbo
Install rally lights, suspension, wheels/tires, roll-cage, and roof rack
Go to a few events
???
Hoon the frick out of it
Road trip
Profit?
![]() 11/30/2014 at 22:35 |

I believe we're all missing the point here. The point being, of course, why doesn't Toyota (or pretty much anybody else) still make a 2dr wagon???
![]() 11/30/2014 at 23:17 |

Somone used to have a four-door in the ramp at work. I miss walking by it. :/

People really need to stop calling modification styles "JDM" if they're not something you'd expect to find on the streets in Japam
Here's an actual Japanese take on a similar-vintage Corolla:

Good god that thing could be brilliant. I wish I had another space in my garage for it.
![]() 12/01/2014 at 00:24 |

I'd probably make that wagon look exactly like the picture above and I'd love it. Except my dad would never allow me to own a project car.
And I'd definitely do an engine swap. Is swapping a 3.5 Camry V6 in there possible? I'd like the reliability. (Would probably want it in an automatic too.)
![]() 12/01/2014 at 02:28 |

Simple silver for the body and... an s2000 swap. An F fits in these old Toyotas without too much work.

This would be a brilliant lemons car

Q: do you have all the chrome for the trim
A: I ONLY HAVE THE CROME TRIM UNDER THE WINDOWS. I JUST NEVER HAD THE TIME TO PUT THEM ON.
![]() 12/01/2014 at 06:35 |

My thoughts exactly!
If I only had $3K and a place to park it...
![]() 12/01/2014 at 07:19 |

I don't understand it either... form and function don't have to be mutually exclusive. Some people just like their cars to look like they ride the short bus to school every day — if that's their thing, more power to them I suppose.
![]() 12/01/2014 at 07:48 |
|
I broke a coil so I cut them down to match. Then I put ugly winter rims on it, and I am going skiing this year and so... I will be that guy. I am not ashamed.
![]() 12/01/2014 at 07:58 |

These were just shipped across a salty ocean, first. Just to help that feature.
Planned obsolescence in it's most blatant form.
![]() 12/01/2014 at 08:11 |

Honestly, that car would look pretty great without the faux wood panels or the angled exhaust
![]() 12/01/2014 at 08:25 |
|
The stance-bros need a roof rack to mount their front licence plate...
I don't get it either.
![]() 12/01/2014 at 09:15 |
|
This car doesn't need anything but a layer of clearcoat to be perfect. And I want it!! Come on, patina + fender mirrors + nice wheels, what else do you need??
![]() 12/01/2014 at 12:55 |
|
1UZ all day long
![]() 12/01/2014 at 12:56 |
|
This with a 1UZ and 3 pedals would be an all day winner
![]() 12/01/2014 at 14:03 |
|
Edit: Were not all Japanese automobiles of this era constructed of a compressed iron oxide material?
![]() 12/01/2014 at 15:14 |

I'm 100% with you. To me, JDM actually means "Japanese Domestic Market"
I'm a huge fan of the Japanese car scene. Shakotan and Kyusha styles really appeal to me.
